We must protect and preserve our great neighbourhoods, while managing sustainable growth that unites us and brings our community closer together.
I am focussed on the following priority areas:
Developing SUSTAINABLE Community
We need new development that is complementary to its surroundings, encompassing high-quality design, protecting Heritage Conservation Districts, providing adequate infrastructure, and giving back to the surrounding area.
We need to work with the Provincial Government so that planning decisions can be made in Toronto for Toronto.
Connecting ENGAGED Neighbourhoods
We need increased and better-utilized green space, to create opportunities for relaxation and recreation for all groups, including our children, youth, seniors and, of course, our pets. Making better use of indoor facilities so we can increase accessibility for community groups.
We need to reach out and encourage the wonderful neighbourhoods within our city to come together; increasing our interaction and engagement.
Integrating NETWORKED Transportation
We need to look at the bigger picture so that transportation infrastructure serves us for decades to come. Transit decisions need to be evidence-based and supported by passenger density data.
We need to start now on a Downtown Commuter Relief Subway Line; support Light Rail Transit (LRT); and support an integrated Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) plan that includes 2-way frequent Regional Express Rail into Union Station.
We need to go beyond transit and invest in Active Transportation including wider pedestrian walkways, commuter and leisure bike lanes, and multi-purpose trails and pathways.
Ensuring DEMOCRATIC Accountability
We should review all alternatives that will achieve open, transparent and accountable governance.
At the city level, we need to adopt ranked ballots to ensure all representatives have the support of at least 50% of the electorate; hold ward Councillors to term limits; and redistribute wards to ensure equal representation for all.
From the Waterfront and the Islands to Cabbagetown, from St. Lawrence to St. Jamestown, from the West Don Lands to Moss Park, from Corktown to Regent Park, from the City to Trefann Court—I commit to being your community champion. I will continue to reach out and engage our neighbourhood, listen to the needs, and help share our voice at all political levels.
We must protect and preserve our great neighbourhoods, while managing sustainable growth that unites us and brings our communities closer together. We must make sure that we have integrated transportation solutions that will keep our city moving. We must achieve open, transparent and accountable governance.
I care passionately about ensuring access to housing, health care and education; and I am a strong advocate helping to ensure that downtown Toronto is an area of priority focus for all levels of government.
Let's move forward together to build a stronger more sustainable engaged city.
